What we do.....

SENsations provides educational psychology assessment for pupils in order to help identify or eliminate any kind of learning difficulty. This can include intelligence testing and academic attainment testing which helps identify conditions such as Dyslexia and Dyscalculia. In addition observations and screening tools can form part of a multi-disciplinary assessment for conditions such as Autistic Spectrum Disorder and ADHD. Part of the core purpose of a psychological assessment is to provide practical advice and strategies which help the pupil use their strengths and target areas for improvement in their learning.

All of our multi-disciplinary assessment services conform to the NICE guidelines (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) and our team are fully trained and highly experienced in a range of gold standard assessment measures including:

  • ADOS-2
  • DISCO
  • ADI-R
  • Conners Checklists
  • QB-check

Regular parent training sessions provide hands-on practical advice to support families of individuals with learning difficulties. Sessions can provide information following a diagnosis such as Autism, Down's Syndrome, Dyslexia or ADHD, in order that parents gain a better understanding of their child's learning profile. In addition training can assist with the "nuts and bolts" of daily life with such conditions, and the challenges this can present . From toilet training to homework support; behaviour management to sex education, training sessions can provide knowledge and build parental confidence to assist their own child's development.

Individual support is also available to tackle specific problems in the home. SENsations can help devise a practical behaviour management programme to tackle the difficulties which are challenging within the family home. In some cases individual therapeutic intervention such as counselling may be appropriate, or small group intervention in areas such as relaxation, sensory play or social skills training.

At SENsations we are very aware of how having an additional need can impact a child's ability to access recreation and leisure opportunities in the community. `We offer a range of leisure activities which are designed specifically with your child in mind. These include:

•   Summer schemes

•   School holiday clubs

•   Specialist group weekends (for example, tween girls activity weekend)
